Assignment #3

*Dramatic Irony: irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play.
*Situational Irony:an outcome that turns out to be very different from what was expected, the difference between what is expected to happen and what actually does.
*Verbal Irony:a figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant.
*Ambiguity:doubtfulness or uncertainty of meaning or intention.

1.) Dahl uses dramatic irony because the audience knows what happens to Patrick but the police and detectives do not. Dramatic irony is stronger because we know what is happening in the story while the characters onstage do not.

2.) Situational irony is used in the story because we didn't expect Mary to feed the lamb to the authority of this scenery.

3.) The title " Lamb to the Slaughter" has a significant and ironic meaning. The title means that a person does not know the result and has been blind of seeing the truth. In the story, the lamb symbolize for the husband which becomes ironic through the story because his wife starts loving him but ends up killing him.
